Mabs Cross is put to undertake six furlongs for the first time in well over a couple of years from the Qipco British Champions Sprint.
The noble mare made her first two career starts within the sprint space from the spring of 2017, but has been kept to five furlongs ever since.
The five-year-old has won seven of her 19 career starts – a tally which comprises a Group One success at the 2018 Prix p lAbbaye, a race where she finished fifth on her latest appearance.
Mabs Cross will line up on British Champions Day for what might be her swansong, together with coach Michael Dods admitting the prospect of extremely testing conditions is a concern as she ends up in trip.
The plan is still to operate, so far as I know, explained the Darlington-based trainer.
Weve always wanted to test her over six furlongs, however, this is always a rigid six in soft ground. Its the same for everyone and theyre doing everything they could to get the assembly on, although its not perfect.
She seems nicely, so I think we will let her take her chance and see how she has on.
The heir apparent to Mabs Cross since the trainer star is Dakota Gold, that maintained his fifth success when shooting the Listed Rous Stakes at Ascot last time out.
Equianos boy will be Very Likely to round off his campaign in next month Stakes.
We have maintained him ticking over and the strategy is to visit Doncaster for the Listed race, Dods added.
Hes in good form, so hopefully hell go there and who will be his last run of the year.
