Mabs Cross set to tackle six furlongs at Ascot

Mabs Cross is defined to tackle six furlongs for the first time in well over two years in the Qipco British Champions Sprint.
The mare made her first two career starts over the sprint space in 2017s spring, but was retained to five furlongs ever since.
The five-year-old has won seven of her 19 career starts – a tally that includes a Group One victory at the 2018 Prix de lAbbayea race in which she finished fifth on her appearance.
Mabs Cross will lineup with trainer Michael Dods admitting that the prospect of extremely testing requirements is a concern as she ends up in trip, for what could be her swansong on British Champions Day.
The plan is still to run, so far as I am aware, said the Darlington-based trainer.
Weve always wanted to try her over six furlongs, but that is always a rigid six in very soft ground. It is not perfect, but its the same for everybody and they are doing everything they can just to find on the assembly.
She seems nicely, so I believe well let her take her chance and see how she has on.
The heir apparent to Mabs Cross since the trainer star is Dakota Gold, who maintained his fifth victory when landing the Listed Rous Stakes out time.
The boy of Equiano is Very Likely to round off his campaign in next month Stakes at Doncaster.
We have maintained him ticking over and the strategy is to go to Doncaster for the Proper race, Dods added.
Hes in great form, so hopefully hell go there and who may be his final run of this year
