Virgil van Dijk plays down talk of new Liverpool deal

Virgil van Dijk insists he’s”not even discussing anything at the moment” regarding negotiations over a contract expansion at Liverpool.
The Reds defender opened up to Sky Sports News reporter Bryan Swanson instantly following Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat away to Napoli.
It turned out to be a miserable start to the defence of their Champions League campaign, particularly with all the Van Dijk allowing a second objective to be stolen by Fernando Llorente.
On the back of reports that he had agreed a fresh bumper deal at Anfield, the 28-year-old, that transferred to Anfield for # 75m at January 2018 from Southampton, had been asked if he wished to hold talks regarding a contract extension.
“There is nothing happening, so that is it,” he explained.
Asked again about needing to hold discussions about’any extension’, Van Dijk added:”That’s not on me! I saw some reports in the media that I agreed a new deal and things.
“But I’m not even discussing anything at the moment. The one thing that I need to do now is to focus on the matches and we are going to find in the future what may happen.”
Van Dijk has been under Jurgen Klopp at the heart of Liverpool’s ascent, playing a leading part at the club’s path last season and their emergence as Manchester City’s major competitions for Premier League dominance.
