Charlie Nicholas returns with his predictions to the British clubs this week getting their Champions League along with Europa League campaigns under way.
You will find nine clubs engaged with the European competitions this season, such as Liverpool, who are currently looking to defend their Champions League title.
And Soccer Saturday’s Charlie has awarded his forecasts for the forthcoming fixtures…
This will be a test for the Champions League holders. We saw a vulnerable side for their defence in the weekend again, conceding after just seven minutes against Newcastle. This isn’t the point, although they obtained and have walked away.
The gap Roberto Firmino creates is unbelievable. He does not get the aims that Mohamed Salah has the pace which Sadio Mane does however he has ability and cunning or gets. He can be my favorite out of those three, my favourite to see and is a team player, even though he may be much a lot easier to mark than the other two.
Liverpool have not improved in midfield. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a fringe player. Those three have to be in their match although we all know they are a good side.
Napoli are all-action and powerful in the home, but maybe not persuasive away from home. Dries Mertens just stones up and does this job. He gets goals and I expect him to grab another.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 2-1 (10/1 with Sky Bet)
Tammy Abraham’s goals are colossal however Mason Mount’s performances are remarkable. England U21 players have scored all 11 Premier League goals so far that’s remarkable. I was incorrect although I thought they’d be in trouble. They have energy and speed up front. It is an expansive method of playing Frank Lampard.
Their boss was sacked by valencia and I do not see them being as flamboyant. They will attempt to counter-attack that will make it difficult for Abraham and Mount to understand.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 1-0 (6/1 with Sky Bet)
This can be an awkward one. Tottenham were remarkable in the first half. They retained hold of Christian Eriksen and things have calmed down a bit. He began against Palace, so is that it’s calmed down?
His staff has been changed by mauricio Pochettino too much and that is the reason why they seem vulnerable at the back. This can be an embarrassing trip and these are dangerous teams, although I would imagine Tottenham would attempt to control possession. Tottenham are still erratic.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 1-1 (11/2 with Sky Bet)
Manchester City discovered this one difficult season. Shakhtar have always brought in a little bit of pedigree but that’s getting less and less as the years progress. They are not quite getting those titles and it takes away the creative ability that they were dangerous with. They aren’t quite sure maybe never or whether they ought to be contesting.
City will probably be winded after the Norwich game. Aymeric Laporte is a massive overlook for them. Pep Guardiola chose to depart Kevin de Bruyne out at the 17, I really don’t know. This will be a comfortable win to get the Premier League winners back on course.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 0-4 (12/1 with Sky Bet)
God only knows what defence Unai Emery will select. I really don’t know we’ll need to say it since Arsenal fans. They are very good going forward, as are the kids. The balance from midfield front is not bad either, but it’s scary how poor Arsenal are defensively.
What is the attraction to Sokratis Papastathopoulos? I’d play Kieran Tierney on Thursday and determine whether Hector Bellerin could begin. Seeing Sunday’s match against Watford, if you see David Luiz giving instructions with 20 minutes to go, you know you are in trouble.
Konstantinos Mavropanos remains game time away from being fit. It would be the end if Shkodran Mustafi was brought backagain. We will need to get Bellerin Rob Holding and then Tierney back into the side. I would take a bang and play with these players let them get match fitness and to provide them match time.
Nicolas Pepe was awful contrary to Watford. Emery took Dani Ceballos along with Mesut Ozil off was beyond me. It’s starting to influence a number of the young players and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. Joe Willock and reiss Nelson came on and couldn’t keep the ball.
It is the manager’s duty. This must be resolved by him and come to some conclusion on the best way to sort out this. Tierney, Bellerin, and Holding need to play I would play with them and have a defeat when it meant they got the game time they desired.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 2-2 (12/1 with Sky Bet)
Astana will come and’park the bus’. Manchester United were not brilliant at the weekend, however it turned out to be a result – they stumbled but they didn’t, and it is about getting yourselves the 3 things, in what was once a match.
It will not make a difference that Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard were lost – that they have not been putting the world on flame. It is not convincing with United but this is another game where they’ll get on the line, in cozy manner.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 2-0 (5/1 with Sky Bet)
Nuno Espirito Santo will want to get one over on the Portuguese side. Braga are always harmful but don’t travel well. Are caught up in the emotion of this Europa League? As Chelsea thumped them they took their foot off the pedal in Premier League.
They had been blown off during weekend and it was really unlike them to concede five and make mistakes. They need to return to basics and find a win in from the Premier League, but this will be taken by Nuno seriously and I anticipate Wolves to be strong here, getting off to a start in the group stages.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 2-0 (6/1 with Sky Bet)
Rennes have started well in Ligue 1. I am hoping that M’Baye Niang will not play. He is lightning quick, nearly a lesser variant of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. These guys can move and play, and that is what Celtic struggle against.
Celtic will be helpful on the counter-attack, but their reputation is the same. They get frightened when they journey away from home. They don’t understand if to play a squeezing game or not and where to throw their defence. They pace out wide and are going to have players that are gifted. Celtic still have defensive traumas and will not endanger here.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 2-1 (17/2 with Sky Bet)
This is going to be a fiery game. Feyenoord have a reputation. Feyenoord have the fire but are not currently bringing . Rangers enjoy these nights which is exactly the reason why Steven Gerrard is there. They have not clicked into gear just yet though. Jaap Stam’s side will sit for 20-25 minutes and this could cause frustration around Ibrox – that is if they could pounce.
Alfredo Morelos is the threat along with Feyenoord will be winding up him whether they could get him to see. He seems a lot calmer than that which he’s been previously! It’s not a simple night. It will be physical and stressed. If Rangers have the knowledge to get through these games however I don’t know.
CHARLIE PREDICTS: 1-1 (5/1 with Sky Bet)
